We are very excited to announce that the Hill Rally stage will return to this year’s BVAC Classic in a new and improved format on Sunday 2nd June.

Visitors will once again be able to enjoy the sight and sound of over 30 Hill Rally monsters, setting off on a special timed stage in the grounds of Thirlestane Castle, as they battle it out to win the Scottish Summer Hill Rally.

A popular addition to last year’s BVAC Classic, the stage has been re-formatted for 2024, so that visitors will be able to see these impressive machines and their crews, in action for longer.

The Scottish Summer Hill Rally, which is organised by the Scottish Hill Rally Club, will see competitors tackle stages across the Scottish Borders County on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June, including the special spectator stage within the BVAC Classic at Thirlestane Castle. The event’s rally service park will also be based within the BVAC Classic Showground, again.

Hill Rallying is a cousin of traditional stage rallying and see’s competitors (driver and co-driver) tackle a variety of off-road stages against the clock; the main difference between hill and stage rallying is that the terrain often tends to be more extreme than in normal stage rallying and as such, so are the competing vehicles! The cars are mostly derived from road going 4×4’s but with some fairly major modifications; expect to see stripped out Land Rover Defender’s with V8 engines giving out 500+ bhp amongst other weird and wonderful off-road monsters!

Commenting on the news, Fraser Wenseth of the Scottish Hill Rally Club said:

“The Scottish Hill Rally Club are delighted to be coming back to Thirlestane Castle and to be partnering with the BVAC to bring the Summer Hill Rally to the Borders. As well as an improved spectator special stage at the castle, the event will feature some new features and a few surprises!”
