Out and about with the Mini

2019 marks the 60th anniversary of the iconic Mini, a celebration which will form the central theme of this year’s BVAC Classic Festival of Motoring at Thirlestane Castle on 2nd June.

Central to these celebrations, the Borders Vintage Automobile Club are holding a special charity raffle for the chance to win a refurbished Mini Cooper. This iconic little car has been very generously donated by Emtelle of Hawick and Jedburgh, and all monies raised will be donated to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation which raises funds for research into Motor Neurone Disease.

In fact, Emtelle, the Borders based manufacturer of cabling solutions for power and fibre optic broadband, have totally funded the whole cost of purchasing and refurbishing the car in support of this wonderful charity. The car has been meticulously refurbished by Deputy Chairman of BVAC Ken Grimes, and the lucky winner will be the proud owner of a Mini Cooper, 1275cc, in flame red and sporting a white roof. A huge thanks also to Alister Scott of Mitsubishi Motors for providing professional valeting services and to Advanced Signs of Galashiels for providing vehicle livery, both donated free of charge.

In advance of the lucky winner being announced at the BVAC Classic Festival of Motoring on the 2nd June at Thirlestane, the Emtelle Mini Cooper will be going on a whistlestop tour around the Borders. This will include high profile appearances at Kelso Races, Gala, Melrose and Hawick Sevens, Selkirk RFC and at various retailers across the Borders and beyond.

Raffle tickets will be on sale at each of these events (see dates and venues below) and are also available now from BVAC members at just £1 a ticket.

Solutions Director of Emtelle, Colin Kirkpatrick said:

‘We are delighted to support such a fabulous fundraiser for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation with the Borders Vintage Automobile Club. We are at the forefront of power and fibre optic technologies, with a longstanding heritage in the Scottish Borders, so supporting the BVAC who has an equally longstanding heritage in the local community, and to be part of a local cause raising funds to aid research into Motor Neurone Disease is important to us. We wish the BVAC all the best in their fundraising efforts and a successful BVAC Classic Event at Thirlestane’.
